Kybella is an FDA-approved, non-surgical treatment that reduces the appearance of what’s often referred to as a “double-chin.” Kybella triggers your body to shed fat cells beneath the chin by injecting a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, resulting in a smoother, slimmer and more contoured chin and jawline.
What is Kybella?
Kybella is a quick, safe, and non-surgical treatment that injects a synthetic form of deoxycholic or bile acid that is already produced by the body. This acid destroys fat cells in the targeted areas beneath the chin for a more defined jawline and reduced appearance of a “double-chin.”
Kybella is a quick treatment that can be administered during lunch hour with very little downtime and is considered a long-term solution. The injected deoxycholic acid will destroy the fat cells beneath the chin. The destruction of fat cells beneath the chin and jawline by the Kybella injections make it impossible for that area to store the same volume of fat in the future – those fat cells are gone forever.
What can I expect during my Kybella procedure?
Kybella is carefully injected in multiple, targeted areas that have been determined by your skincare experts at our Cincinnati area medspa. Patients will often need anywhere from 20 to 50 small injections during a session for the best results. During your Kybella treatment, your skincare specialist will apply an ice pack or numbing agent to prepare for the injections. Your skincare specialist will then administer the Kybella treatment injections in a grid pattern in the fatty under-chin zone, which typically only takes 15 to 20 minutes.
After your Kybella treatment at Illuminate Aesthetics, you may experience some swelling that could last up to two weeks. However, you will be able to return to work immediately after your session. The full results of a more contoured chin and jawline will be visible within a month after your treatment. Some patients may be required to have additional treatments in order to achieve the desired results. The number of treatments you may need will be determined during your initial consultation.
Am I a good candidate for Kybella?
If you are an adult over the age of 18 and are concerned about the appearance of fat beneath your chin, you may be a good candidate for Kybella. To determine if Kybella is right for you, you should openly discuss your health and any current medical conditions during your consultation at our Dayton area office, including pregnancy or plans for pregnancy, any bleeding issues or use of blood thinners. You must also disclose if you have had facial procedures or surgery in the past or plan to have them in the future to determine if Kybella is the best choice for you.
