Symptoms of TMJ

TMJ is the name given to any disorder which allows the jaw to become misaligned. Because TMJ affects the jaw, many of its symptoms are apparent in that immediate area such as pain or swelling around the jaw joint, grinding or clicking noises when opening and shutting the mouth, and even complete lockjaw.

However, despite the issue stemming from jaw misalignment, many of the symptoms of TMJ may not seem to have any relation to the jaw at all. These may include:

  • Chronic headaches
  • Neck, shoulder, and back aches
  • Generalized facial pain
  • Ear ringing or pain without infection
  • Eye pressure and pain
  • Postural changes

If you are suffering from any of these symptoms, a neuromuscular evaluation at our Mason, Ohio office can help determine if TMJ is the culprit. If you're diagnosed with TMJ, we can begin working on a treatment plan that restores alignment and produces long-lasting relief.

During your regularly scheduled general dentistry cleanings and examinations, our dentists take time to examine your jaw for signs of TMJ. If symptoms occur in between visits, we will get you in as soon as possible to begin addressing the problem.

If you are suffering from any of the symptoms of TMJ, please contact one of our experienced Mason, Dayton, and Cincinnati neuromuscular dentists at Hardin Advanced Dentistry by phone at (513) 234-5531 or through our website form today. Also serving SE Indiana and Northern Kentucky.
