How did you hear about us?

How can we help you?*

At Hardin Advanced Dentistry, we focus on patient comfort and safety and offer the most advanced systems for diagnosis and treatment including innovations in 3D dentistry. We use the iTero intraoral scanner to produce 3D digital impressions, offering almost instantaneous results for shorter appointments and better outcomes. This high-precision scanner captures thousands of images, automatically knitting the images together to produce a perfectly accurate 3D image of your teeth and gums.

The iTero scanner makes diagnosing dental and oral health problems faster, more accurate, and painless. It also allows us to create tooth restorations without the unpleasant purple goop traditionally used to take impressions. The iTero scanner provides our patients with a more comfortable experience with no need for trays, dental putty, and the nasty taste and gagging associated with older impression methods.

Digital Modeling for a Perfect Impression

Your mouth is scanned with a small, comfortable, radiation-free laser in just moments, producing a perfect 3D impression of your teeth and gums -- for a completely accurate model. This digital impression is used to create perfect restorations including crowns, veneers, bridges, implants, inlays, and onlays that fit and look exactly as they should.

The iTero 3D images are also used as the model for a customized set of Invisalign aligners that will slowly shift your teeth into alignment, closing gaps, turning misaligned teeth, and correcting bite problems easily, painlessly, and invisibly. The iTero also allows us to share images that show how their aligned teeth will appear after the Invisalign treatment is complete.

The system provides our patients with far greater comfort. It also allows us to help them better understand oral or dental problems and more easily communicate the treatment needed to restore a perfect smile. As the digital images are immediately available on a chairside monitor, there is no waiting. We do all we can to help you have fewer appointments, better results, and the most comfortable, positive experience while visiting our dental practice.

iTero Scanner FAQ's

What is digital dentistry?

Digital dentistry is advancing our field faster than we ever could have imagined. New technologies and devices incorporate digital and computer-controlled components to replace those of the conventional. CAD/CAM (computer aided design / computer aided manufacturing) is just a small part of digital dentistry. The iTero scanner is just one of many devices that contributes to the rapidly evolving field of digital dentistry

What are the iTero scanner’s capabilities?

The iTero scanner can record your gums and teeth in just a few minutes. The small, radiation-free wand navigates around your teeth to take 3D pictures. Besides making crowns, bridges, inlays, onlays, and veneers, we can overlay scans of your mouth over time to illustrate tooth wear and tooth movement. We can also three-dimensionally plan where your implant will be placed and get a near-instantaneous simulation of straightening your teeth with Invisalign.

Is the iTero scanner safe?

The iTero scanner does not expose patients to any radiation whatsoever. It is completely safe.

How is the iTero beneficial for me as a patient?

The restorations we place in your mouth are made faster, more accurately, and more easily. Digital dentistry using the iTero scanner is faster, more economical, predictable, and consistent. For you as a patient, the gooey impressions are a thing of the past. We want the best for our patients and we know that the iTero scanner provides us with the means to give you better care.

iTero Element 5D Scanner

At Hardin Advanced Dentistry, we recently procured the iTero Element 5D scanner to provide even better bite visualization to patients. The iTero Element 5D is the first dental imaging system that records 3D intraoral visuals to provide detailed comparisons over time.

iTero Element 5D also happens to be the first 3D intraoral scanner with NIRI (near-infrared imaging) technology, allowing you to see the internal structure of your teeth in real-time. The iTero TimeLapse technology provides a time-lapse of your oral health over extended periods.

Benefits of
iTero Element 5D

  • NIRI technology provides real-time visuals of caries and lesions
  • Ideal for comprehensive preventive dental care
  • Produces, saves, and records 3D intraoral visuals
  • Doesn’t involve radiation
  • Time-lapse of your oral health over extended periods
  • Simulates the results of orthodontic treatments
  • Provides a detailed time-based Invisalign progress assessment
  • No waiting for the diagnostic results

iTero Scanner and Gag Reflex

Studies show that approximately 7.5% of patients gag during dental visits, a fear that often prevents patients from seeking dental treatments. The gag reflex is a natural biological response triggered by an object touching the back of your tongue, the roof of your mouth, the back of your throat, or around your tonsils. Traditional impression-taking methods often trigger the patient’s gag reflex, leading to an uncomfortable experience.

However, the iTero scanner captures the shape of your teeth and produces accurate 3D visuals without impression trays. Digital impressions with the iTero scanner don’t involve the impression material, are far less invasive, and more comfortable. As such, the iTero scanner is ideal for patients with a hypersensitive gag reflex. Besides being more comfortable, the iTero scanner is also more accurate than traditional impressions.

Tips on Handling a Gag Reflex

  • Try relaxation techniques to take your mind off the object triggering your gag reflex
  • Talk to your dentist about topical medications or local anesthesia to manage your gag reflex
  • Discuss the possibility of nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to prevent gagging
  • Inform us of any sensitive gag reflex so we can discuss alternative techniques
