Porcelain Veneers Cincinnati

At Last –
The Smile You Want

When you visit our office for a cosmetic consultation, we discuss your goals, answer your questions and concerns, and discuss the cosmetic dentistry procedures right for you. You may want to close gaps, erase stains, straighten misalignments, or change the size or shape of one or several teeth. With one of the best porcelain veneers Cincinnati has to offer, we can achieve impressive results in just two office visits!

Porcelain veneers are often called "instant orthodontics." The veneers consist of thin porcelain shells that are bonded to the front surfaces of the teeth. Veneers can correct the appearance of minor misalignments, cover stains, and create a more beautiful, even shape to your teeth.

Dr. Hardin can design the veneers in your first visit and place them in your second appointment. Each set of veneers is custom manufactured to perfectly fit and to enhance your smile and face.

In addition to improving your smile, veneers can strengthen teeth that have weakened over time due to trauma or extensive dental work. They are stain-resistant, function like your natural teeth, and are easy to care for. Modern dental porcelains are extremely lifelike and their semi-translucence makes them indistinguishable from your natural teeth.

Dr. Tara Hardin’s extensive experience and education makes it possible to place porcelain veneers with minimal impact on your natural tooth structure. We also offer two trusted brands of no-prep veneers, Lumineers® and DURAthin veneers.

Porcelain Veneers:
How They Work

Our Mason veneers are thin porcelain shells bonded directly to the surface of your tooth to conceal imperfections. The shell itself is roughly as thick as a fingernail. It is custom created to perfectly match your natural tooth color and is virtually indistinguishable and far more attractive.

Porcelain veneers can correct the following cosmetic or aesthetic flaws:

  • Stained or discolored teeth
  • Worn teeth with visible chips or cracks
  • Unsightly gaps between teeth
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Mild misalignment giving your smile an uneven, less-attractive appearance

Porcelain Veneers
Evaluation

Every set of porcelain veneers is customized to resolve each patient’s unique dental needs and give you the smile you envision. Our cosmetic dentists evaluate the condition of your teeth and discuss what you hope to achieve, and whether porcelain veneers is the right treatment to resolve your aesthetic concerns. We want you to have the brilliant smile you want, as well as protect and preserve your overall oral health.

You might be an ideal candidate for porcelain veneers if:

  • Your teeth are healthy and free from decay
  • You don’t suffer from gum disease
  • You don’t habitually clench or grind your teeth
  • Your bite is properly aligned
  • You have sufficient healthy tooth enamel to support veneers

Porcelain Veneers:
Your Options

To place traditional veneers involves the removal of a thin section of your natural tooth enamel, approximately one millimeter thick, creating a surface on which the ceramic shell is bonded. If you have concerns about how tooth preparation might affect the health and structure of your teeth, more conservative smile restorations are also available.

Lumineers® are an alternative and appropriate for some patients. Applied like veneers, Lumineers® are crafted with an ultra-thin design, requiring little to no removal of tooth enamel to properly bond to the tooth surface. These veneers make it possible to retain more of your natural tooth structure and achieve beautiful, natural-looking aesthetic changes.

What Are DURAthin Veneers?

The DURAthin process uses customized porcelain shells matching the natural shape and color of your teeth. As the name suggests, the cosmetic shells are very thin, about the thickness of a contact lens. These shells, like other porcelain veneers, are bonded to the front of your teeth to enhance the appearance of the treated teeth.

DURAthin veneers can resolve several aesthetic issues affecting teeth that make your smile less attractive, including:

  • Stains
  • Chips
  • Cracks
  • Uneven size
  • Odd shape
  • Crooked Teeth

Because of their thin shape, DURAthin is an ideal treatment for many patients. More pronounced flaws might require a different treatment plan, but only a one-on-one evaluation reveals which treatment can give you the brilliant smile you envision.

How Can DURAthin Veneers Benefit Me?

DURAthin veneers are bonded to the front of your teeth like other types of porcelain veneers. One of the benefits of this brand is that little to no preparation is needed before adhering the veneers to your natural teeth.

The placement of traditional porcelain veneers on teeth first requires the removal of a thin layer of enamel to create a surface to which they permanently bond. The DURAthin shells are so thin that they can be adhered to your teeth seamlessly without removing any enamel, giving patients a brighter, more attractive smile while protecting the natural tooth structure.

DURAthin veneers are customized to suit each patient. By closely matching the veneers to the shape and color of your natural teeth, Dr. Tara Hardin can give you the bright, stunning smile you deserve. With DURAthin, your smile appears natural and brilliant. The artistry involved in selecting the correct size, shape and color is exceptionally important – and you can trust the skilled hands and eye for beauty of Dr. Hardin.

Our cosmetic dentists were educated at the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies, the foremost continuing education program for dental professionals in the United States. Both of our dentists have extensive experience in cosmetic treatments, like DURAthin, and how to create an appearance that looks natural and beautiful.

Veneers FAQ's

Can a general dentist do veneers?

Yes, a general dentist can do veneers, but it is important to search for a dentist that is cosmetically focused. It is an aesthetic procedure but a serious one! American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) is a great resource in finding the most qualified cosmetic dentist.

How many veneers do I need?

The number of veneers needed is case dependent. Some cases need one tooth, and some need all the teeth. There are parameters that we must stay within when creating the smile and this helps determine the number of teeth.

How long will veneers last?

This question is asked a lot. Veneers need to be treated and cared for like natural teeth and they will last a long time. Rule of thumb anything that can break a natural tooth can break a veneer. A veneer should never just “come off” once bonded correctly. Life span is typically 15-20 years.

Do my teeth have to be shaved down for veneers?

Not every case needs teeth shaved! In 90% of cases the teeth are prepared less than a millimeter (think the thickness of your fingernail). Some cases the teeth don’t even have to be touched! To shave as little as possible and conserve tooth structure, sometimes we will recommend minor orthodontic movement (Invisalign) prior to the procedure. The days of mowing teeth down to stubs in cosmetics is well behind us.

Will my veneers change color?

One of the beauties of veneers is that they never change color. This means no more whitening maintenance and you will always have a fresh white smile!

How much are veneers?

Veneers can range in cost depending on the location, lab used, and skill of the dentist. Prices can go from $1,000 - $4,000 per tooth.

Will the procedure hurt?

To keep patients comfortable, you will be numb during the veneer appointment. Some cases afterwards their gums can be sore but nothing ibuprofen can’t help with.

What if I don’t like them?

Rest assured that here at Hardin Advanced Dentistry nothing is put in permanently until you love it! Your permanent veneers will be an upgrade from the provisionals (temporaries) you have been wearing. We always make sure you are happy with your provisionals before proceeding to the finals. And then we ALWAYS try on the final restorations and get our patients’ approval before bonding them in place. You are guaranteed to get the smile you want.

How do I clean veneers?

There is no difference in your daily routine but there are a few recommendations. Do not use an abrasive toothpaste on the veneers as this can “scratch” the porcelain and cause them to lose their shine. Most abrasive toothpastes have some sort of whitening benefit so avoid whitening toothpastes and you will be fine!

Also having a hygienist that knows how to clean them is equally important as your dentist who placed them. A dentist who does many veneers means his or her hygienists clean many veneers. An investment is worth protecting, especially when it comes to your health.

How long does it take to get veneers?

The time frame can vary depending on the final treatment plan. Some cases take less than a week and in other cases it’s 2 months. This is something we discuss with each patient prior to starting treatment.
