The Advantages of Childhood Dentistry
Searching for the right family dentist in Cincinnati can be especially difficult for families with small children. For many practices, “family dentistry services” means that they are willing to have regular patients bring their kids in for examinations, but don’t do anything in particular to make the experience welcoming for children unused to a dentist office.
At Hardin Advanced Dentistry, we do everything we can to make the experience of a dental checkup relaxing for children. Bringing your child to the dentist’s from an early age sets them up favorably in a number of ways:
- They are less likely to be afraid of dental procedures
- Good dental habits are ingrained from an early age
- A greater chance of catching dental problems early
- Opportunities to prevent issues with bite alignment
- Parents get help with thumb-sucking and other problems
- They are more likely to see dental visits as a normal part of life
It’s normal to first bring your child to the dentist’s around their first birthday, even if they do not have any teeth yet. This allows you to familiarize them with the environment. After their second birthday, you should start bringing them in every 6 months. Childhood dental care is highly predictive of future dental health, so the more you are able to prevent tooth decay and cavities in your children, the better off their teeth are likely to be in the future.
