How did you hear about us?

How can we help you?

Through LVI training and years of practice, Dr. Tara Hardin and Dr. Gary Hardin have achieved significant insight into the impact dental health issues can have on a patient’s overall well-being. For this reason, our Cincinnati neuromuscular dentists offer multiple options for temporomandibular joint (TMJ) treatment.

If you regularly suffer from headaches, jaw pain, and other symptoms, TMJ treatment might be the solution for restoring your quality of life. To schedule a comprehensive evaluation, please call Hardin Advanced Dentistry at (513) 813-2716 today. We welcome patients throughout the Greater Cincinnati area.

What Is the TMJ?

The body has two temporomandibular joints: one on each side of the face, just below the ear. The TMJ makes it possible for us to open and close our mouths and move our jaw from side to side.

If the TMJ becomes misaligned, the entire myofascial system can become disrupted. Potential causes of TMJ disorder (also called TMD) include:

  • Teeth grinding or clenching
  • Injury to the face
  • Arthritic damage to the joint

Patients who suffer from TMD may experience a range of unpleasant symptoms. Migraine headaches are common, as well as sensations of pain and fatigue in the jaw, ears, face, and neck.

Many of the symptoms of TMJ dysfunction can be mistaken for other conditions, making the problem difficult to diagnose. However, Dr. Tara and Dr. Gary have extensive experience helping patients manage TMJ pain and realign their bite with custom treatment options.

TMJ Treatment

The most effective remedy for TMD symptoms will depend on the cause and intensity of the dysfunction. Our neuromuscular dentists might recommend treatment options such as:

  • Over-the-counter or prescription pain medication
  • Physical therapy
  • Custom orthotic to relieve pressure on the TMJ and reposition the bite
  • Full mouth reconstruction

Because it involves interactions of the facial muscles, joints, and ligaments, TMJ treatment can be complex. If you suffer from TMD, it is critical to find a dentist who understands the connection between the jaw joint and the rest of the body and knows how to restore systemic health and function.

Dr. Gary and Dr. Tara have extensive experience with neuromuscular dentistry, enabling them to provide a variety of personalized treatment options for TMJ. please contact Hardin Advanced Dentistry online or call (513) 813-2716 today to discuss your symptoms. Our dentists welcome patients throughout the Greater Cincinnati area, including Mason and Dayton, OH, as well as Southeast Indiana and Northern Kentucky.
