Dental Implant Aftercare
Dental implants are rooted in the jaw line just like natural teeth and can be an ideal solution for replacing a missing tooth. If you live in or around Cincinnati and have lost one or more teeth, dental implants might be able to make your smile complete again.
Dr. Gary Hardin and Dr. Tara Hardin can help determine if you’re a candidate for dental implants. Once your dentist has implanted the prosthetic tooth into your jaw line, you’ll need to care for it like you would a natural tooth. It’s important to continue practicing good oral hygiene, such as twice-daily brushing and daily flossing.
Along with normal dental health upkeep, additional precautions include:
- Diligent care for the gums around the implant; gum disease can lead to inflammation and infection of nearby tissue if not thoroughly cleaned on a regular basis.
- Being mindful of any looseness in the screws holding your implant in place; your dentist can tighten or replace screws to ensure the best fit.
- Regularly visiting your dentist to make sure your mouth is healthy and the implant is functioning properly; X-rays can help your dentist evaluate bone strength.
If you follow the steps above, your dental implant should be fully integrated into the gum tissue and jaw within two to four months of the procedure.
