Getting Started with Dentures
If you’re missing one or more teeth, you’re most likely looking for a way to make your smile complete again without sacrificing the natural look and feel. Our Cincinnati dentists have helped many patients adjust to dentures and recapture their self-confidence and ideal appearance.
Dentures are available in several different forms, including full, partial, and implant-supported dentures. Our dentists will perform a complete exam of your mouth and discuss any oral health issues or cosmetic concerns you might have before recommending which denture is best for you.
Once your denture is complete, Dr. Tara Hardin or Dr. Gary Hardin will provide input on how you can adjust to this tooth replacement solution. Generally speaking, some of the key steps for getting used to dentures are:
- Keeping the dentures in your mouth at all times during the first few days of wear to help muscles in your mouth become accustomed to the prosthetic.
- Eating a soft food diet to regain comfortable chewing function.
- Saying difficult-to-pronounce words out loud to restore speaking ability.
By wearing your dentures consistently for the first few days, your mouth will start to become accustomed to the restoration. Materials have improved to make dentures more comfortable and natural looking, meaning you can restore your smile in a way that mimics your natural teeth.
